Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has increased in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha hi low starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting ensues in which players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. Another sequence of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few entrants can get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in just about all poker games.
A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.
It may seem complex initially, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game with ease. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting array of wagering options and because you have many individuals shooting for the high hand, along with a few trying for the low hand. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
