One of the biggest complications that I encountered when I first got into Texas hold em was figuring out what cards to wager on in what Placement. Typically I would have burned on a hand that I thought was a very good starting hand. Come to find out they were beneficial hands, just not in the placement I was betting them from. Here is a pretty basic list of what kind of hands to bet on and what location it’s suitable to wager on them in. Remember this chart doesn’t factor in raises or suits.
Bet on From Any Location
Ace, Ace King, King Queen, Queen Jack, Jack Ten, Ten Nine, Nine Eight, Eight AK Ace, Queen Ace, Jack Ace, Ten King, Queen KJ
Bet on Mid to Late Position
66 Five, Five King, Ten QJ QT Jack Ten
Play in Late Placement Only
A9 A8 A7 King, Nine King, Eight Q9 J9 Jack, Eight T9 Ten, Eight Nine, Eight Nine, Seven
For anyone who is just beginning to bet on poker, playing these hands at the suggested positions will help you often be in a safe position before the flop. As your game progresses, you will be able to add more hands to this list and know how to bet on them in specific situations. Should you be just beginning to bet on cards, I would suggest wagering for nickels and dimes at house or for free at a web based poker website. Poker sites are nice because you get to see numerous additional hands per hour than you do at household. A few goods websites to wager on for free are UltimateBet and PartyPoker.com.
