Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he loved participating in numerous card games at a young age. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly wager against each other. Howard was able to access a number of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, he would tweak his strategic thinking skills. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master poker. She was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. She is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard Lederer headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the following 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he made the decision to play more tournaments.
