Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
