Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success.
